Xiaomi’s enjoyed a good few quarters in the Indian smartphone market over the past two years. During this period, the company has announced a number of phones that have emerged as blockbuster hits. And now according to an IDC report, 3 of its phones have managed to take the top three spots in the list of 10 best selling smartphones this quarter.
As per the finding of the report, which has since been shared by Manu Kumar Jain on Twitter, Xiaomi’s Redmi 6A, Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Y2 have managed to emerge as three best-selling smartphones in Q1 2019. These phones also achieved this feat with impressive margins.
While the Redmi 6A saw 3 million units being sold giving it a 9.5 per cent share of the market, Xiaomi sold 1.5 million units of the Redmi 6 Pro amassing 4.8 per cent share and 1.2 million units of the Redmi Y2 — adding 3.86 per cent share of the sales to its name.
As per the information revealed by Jain, Xiaomi also had four other devices in the top 10 list — Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi 6, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Go. The remaining three phones in the list were from Samsung and Vivo, with the Galaxy M20 and J2 Core finishing fourth and fifth in the list, followed by the Vivo V15 Pro in 6th.
Though unrelated, the IDC report also revealed that despite global market shrinking 6 per cent YoY, India’s smartphone market has showed strong growth in the first quarter, with total shipment of 32.1 million units in 1Q19 (2019Q1) — an impressive 7.1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth.
As per the report, Xiaomi has retained its place as the biggest smartphone maker in the country, staying ahead of Samsung in second with a YoY decline of 4.8% in 1Q19 – as opposed to Xiaomi’s YoY growth of 8.1% in 1Q19. The next three positions are now held by Chinese brands, with Vivo and Realme finishing at 3rd and 5th.
