Last month we set our sights on the Android 9 Pie roadmap and the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and its younger brother Redmi 6A were also on the list. Although the update was scheduled for Q2 2019, the company has a decidedly abrupt (and unwelcome) change for the owners of the two models.
The roadmap, in fact, has been in a rather silent way and now shows the wording “Change of Plan, Suspension of Recruitment”. A clear signal indicating that the update to Android 9 Pie for the two models in question has been canceled.
Xiaomi should, however, continue to roll out newer features to the Redmi 6/6A, and the Redmi S2 through latest versions of MIUI. After being launched with MIUI 9.1, all the three devices were updated to MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo last year and we expect Xiaomi to include these smartphones for future updates, even MIUI 11.
