It seems like some Mi fans weren’t happy that there wasn’t an 8GB RAM + 256GB Mi 9 Explorer Edition variant available when the Mi 9 saw its launch. The only options available are the 12GB/256GB Explorer Edition variant, and the regular Mi 9.
Well, Xiaomi’s Product Director Wang Teng Thomas apparently took note of this. Earlier today, he went to Weibo to announce that an 8GB RAM + 256GB transparent Mi 9 variant is coming soon. This model would fit in nicely between the aforementioned two, bridging the apparently missing gap.
Other than the RAM, the Mi 9 Explorer Edition shares the same internals as the regular Mi 9. This includes a 6.39-inch notched Super AMOLED FHD+ display and Snapdragon 855 SoC. The camera setups are also the same, with a 20MP front camera and a 48MP+16MP+12MP triple rear camera.
The current speculated price point for the device is CNY 3,599 ($535), though nothing’s set in stone. For now, all we can do is wait and see when the device finally goes on sale.
