The owners of Xiaomi Mi Max 2 are the first users to taste the new update to MIUI 9, the latest version of the user interface by Xiaomi. The ROM is being rolled out as a “beta stable” update and we are talking about the Global ROM. It is not a definitive update, but it regards the stable version of the firmware, so we can consider it almost definitive. We did not expect this phablet to be among the first devices to get the new updates. It is not a flagship and it is not among the best selling phones launched by the company, so we really do not get the sense.
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is receiving an OTA update that has a size of 500 MB, but not every user is being notified. In the meantime, an update is seeding on the Xiaomi Redmi 4 as well. It is not the update to MIUI 9 but it is the update to Android Nougat, based on MIUI 8.5. This is a nightly version as well, it brings the version of the operating system to Android 7.1.2 and it also adds security patches released by Google for the month of September.
So, even in this case, we are talking about a “beta stable” ROM which will help Xiaomi to take as many feedbacks as possible to release the definitive version of MIUI 9 in the following days without issues. While Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is the biggest phablet from the company, Xiaomi Redmi 4 is one of the smallest and cheapest phones released by Xiaomi. An update to MIUI 8.5 based on Android Nougat has also been released on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 several weeks ago. Just to remind you, the company has announced that in India the final update to MIUI 9 will be rolled out on November 2 on the first batch of devices.
