Some guys from XDA Developers have just brought Android One from Xiaomi Mi A1 to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and 4X, the best selling midrange phones by the Chinese giant. As you know if you are real Xiaomi fans, Mi A1 is the first and only smartphone by the company without MIUI and with Android One, a stock version of the green robot supported directly by Google. But now, thanks to a porting of its ROM, it is possible to try it on Note 4 and 4X.
But we advise you that this is not an official port, and you will find some bugs in it, that we hope will be fixed with new releases of the custom ROM. The bugs found in the ROM regard the fingerprint reader that is not working well, as well as the infrared sensor to use the phones as remote. Then, there are other minor bugs on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and 4X which are not so worrying. We also inform you that you need to root your phone in order to install this ROM. The ROM has the Google apps and it also is a multi language ROM.
Install Android One on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and 4X
Before proceeding, make sure to backup all your important data because you will lose everything in this installation process. If you want to install Android One on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and 4X, first of all, you have to copy the ROM in the internal memory of your device. So, download the ROM at this link, connect the phone to your PC and unzip it in the internal memory. Then, you have to install TWRP if you do not have it installed. If you are not expert and you do not know how to do it, follow our guide on How To Install TWRP Recovery on Xiaomi Phones. After you installed this custom recovery, turn off your phone and boot it into recovery mode (by pressing power key + volume up key) and enter TWRP. Select the options to wipe data, wipe cache and wipe system. Now you can install the ROM by clicking on Install and choosing the ROM from the internal folders in your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and 4X. After the ROM has been installed, restart your phone and you will have Android One in your device.
Note that this is just a porting, so do not expect to receive official OTA updates by Google. If you want that, you have to buy a Xiaomi Mi A1. Furtherly, we do not ensure you that the bugs present in the ROM will be fixed with future releases, it may just be a single porting without any updates in future. Anyways, if you want to ask info about the ROM, you can do it by visiting the topic related to it on XDA Developers. You can see it by clicking here. The ROM is based on Android Nougat, to be accurate we are talking about the version 7.9.21 of the Xiaomi Mi A1’s firmware.
