Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a great upgrade over its predecessor, but it does not seem to be so better in terms of design. Even if the border on the lower part is thinner, the bezels on the other three sides are thicker, and this does not make the phone provide that “wow” effect we had with the original Mi Mix. Another difference is the fact that the first version has a full ceramic unibody design, while the new device has a metal frame and just a ceramic back cover (to make the mass production easier).
Now, add the fact that its predecessor has won the Good Design Award 2017, and it is officially the phone by the Chinese company which obtained most awards. So, at least aesthetically, the original Xiaomi Mi Mix seems to stay the best phone by the Chinese giant, and its successor is a step back in terms of design. But, even if it is less outstanding aesthetically, note that it has much better specifications. First of all it has a better hardware side thanks to an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 running at a max frequency of 2.45 GHz, up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has a better display, with the 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It even has a much better camera with its 12 MP resolution, while the camera of its predecessor did not have so good performances. The battery is the only inferior thing: 3400 vs 4400 mAh, so it lasts less than the one of its predecessor. Together with the Mi Mix, there are other products by Xiaomi that won the Good Design Awards 2017. They are the following:
- Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter
- Xiaomi Mi Laser Projector
- Xiaomi Mi Walkie-Talkie
- Xiaomi Mi TV 4
- Xiaomi Mi VR
- Xiaomi Mi LED (a lamp)
We hope to see a more original design on future midrange phones, too.
